Our goal is not just speed - it is quality. We treat the cover letter as a marketing tool: personalized, focused, enthusiastic, concise, and written in the language of the job listing, so your letter can stand out against the vast majority of generic applications.

Use Coverlttr whenever you need a job-ready cover letter tailored to a specific role:

Coverlttr follows a clear path from context to a finished letter:

1. Gather context - your details and bio, company and role, the full job description, tone/style preferences, and one or more uploaded CVs
2. Analyze the opportunity - the AI extracts advertised requirements, aligns them with your qualifications (using the job’s own language where it fits), and pulls out the most relevant points from your documents
3. Write a persuasive letter - a focused narrative that answers why you want the role and why you are a strong fit, without padding or generic filler
4. Polish and ship - review and edit on the cover letter page, apply a template, then export the file you need

You can start on the website, pull in jobs saved via the Chrome extension, or run the same account actions through MCP from your AI tool of choice.

Upload your CV/resume (and other supporting documents) once via Settings → Files or the generation form’s drag-and-drop upload. Files are stored securely in object storage and linked to your account, so they persist across sessions.

On later generations - on the website or through MCP - you can reuse those same files instead of uploading again. The AI is given access to your stored documents so it can extract skills and experience that match the specific job, which is what makes each letter deeply personalized rather than a thin rewrite of a pasted summary.

Upload at least one resume in Settings → Files (or generate once on the website); after that, MCP and repeat web generations can list and use those uploaded resumes.

The Coverlttr Chrome extension adds a one-click “Save to Coverlttr” action on LinkedIn job posts. While you browse LinkedIn Jobs, you can save roles you care about without copying and pasting the description by hand.

Saved jobs sync to your Coverlttr account and show up when you create a cover letter, so company, role, and description are ready to go. You can still paste a job listing manually if you prefer - the extension is the faster path once you install it. View steps or install here.

Yes. Coverlttr exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so compatible AI clients can work with your account over secure OAuth - no API keys to paste into config files.

From ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and similar tools, your agent can check credits, list uploaded resumes, estimate cost, generate or regenerate a cover letter, apply a template, and export a downloadable file. After a generation, open the letter on the website for the full formatted view and template library.

Coverlttr uses a credit-based system. You spend credits when you generate cover letters (and on related actions like applying templates). New accounts start with free starter credits so you can try the product without a payment method.

When you need more, you can subscribe to a monthly, quarterly, or yearly plan for recurring credits, or buy one-time credit packs if you already have an active subscription. You always see the credit cost before confirming a generation.

Subscriptions (Starter, Basic, and Pro) bill on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly cycle and grant credits each period. Longer billing periods include discounts versus paying month to month.

Credit packs are one-time purchases that add credits to your balance when you need more before your next renewal. Packs are available only if you already have an active subscription.

No. You can create an account and use your free starter credits without entering a credit card. You only need a payment method when you subscribe to a plan or purchase additional credits.

Subscribe from the Pricing page. After you're subscribed, open Settings → Billing to view your current plan, next billing date, buy credit packs, cancel your subscription, and review payment history.

One-time credit packs require an active subscription. If you don't have a plan yet, start with a subscription on the Pricing page, then add packs from Billing whenever you need extra credits.

Credit cost is calculated based on several factors. We start with a base cost of 4 credits for each cover letter. Additional credits are added based on:

• The number of key points you include (0.3 credits per key point)
• The length of your job position description (0.5 credits per 500 characters)
• The length of your tone description (0.5 credits per 500 characters)

The final cost is also adjusted based on your desired document length - longer documents require more credits. You can see the total credit cost before confirming your generation request.

Yes. Unused credits stay in your account balance. When your subscription renews, new period credits are added on top of whatever you still have left.

You can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so you keep plan access until that date. After the period ends, your subscription is cleared and renewals stop.

Credits already in your account are not removed when you cancel.

Purchases are generally non-refundable. If a generated cover letter has a significant issue, you can report it through our reporting system - if we confirm a problem on our side, we may refund the credits used for that generation.

Open Settings → Billing to see your billing history, including dates, descriptions, amounts, and payment status (such as Paid, Pending, Failed, or Refunded).

Writing and layout are separate steps. Coverlttr generates the argument first. You then apply a template and download a file. Our built-in templates are authored in LaTeX and compiled into text-based PDFs, specifically to preserve selectable, machine-readable text while providing a professional layout.

Visual polish and parseability can still pull in opposite directions, so no template can guarantee compatibility with every employer portal or ATS configuration.

For conservative portals, pick a simpler template and export PDF or Word as the employer asked. Do not trust the on-site preview alone: open the downloaded file. If a form wants unstyled paste, use Markdown or plain text.

Yes. After the AI generates your cover letter content, you open it on the cover letter page where you can review and edit the text, then apply a professional template for layout and styling. Once a template is applied, you can export the finished letter in the format you need for your application.

Generation focuses on persuasive, tailored writing; templates and exports handle the visual formatting and file delivery. The on-site preview is not the file—open the downloaded PDF or Word document. See templates and application compatibility.

On your cover letter page, you can choose from a library of professional templates. Each template applies a different visual style and layout to your AI-generated content - for example Modern Professional, Creative Portfolio, Academic Research, Startup Minimal, Executive Suite, Fresh Graduate, Digital Marketing, and Tech Innovator.

Pick a template that fits the role and industry. If it needs extra details—such as your email, phone, LinkedIn, or portfolio—you can review or edit the prefilled values before confirming. Required fields and formats such as email addresses, phone numbers, and links are checked before the template is applied, so it uses the details you confirm rather than guessed contact information.

Confirmed values are saved to your profile and reused by templates that use the same field, but you can update them whenever they change. Applying a template uses a small number of credits (shown before you confirm). You can switch templates later if you want a different look, and should always review the finished document before sending it.

After you apply a template, you can download your cover letter in several formats:

• PDF - easy to view and share with employers
• Word (.docx) - editable in Microsoft Word and similar apps
• Markdown (.md) - lightweight text for editors or GitHub
• Plain text (.txt) - opens in any text editor
• PNG - image export for previews or slides
• LaTeX (.tex) - source file for advanced typesetting

PDF and Word are the most common choices for job applications. Export is available from the cover letter page once a template has been applied.

Yes, like any AI tool, CoverLetter has a small margin of error. We encourage users to review the final draft and make personal tweaks. If there’s a significant issue, you can report it and we’ll investigate - it may even qualify for a credit refund.

No. The draft is supposed to use the employer’s wording where it fits—tools, methods, and role language that your CV actually supports—not paste the posting back at them. Generic corporate filler from the ad should not be copied for its own sake.

Keywords extracted from the listing appear next to the draft so you can inspect overlap. That list is not a stuffing score. The writer is instructed not to invent employers, degrees, metrics, or experience that is not in your CV and other inputs.

Models can still err. Read every claim before you send. Edit or regenerate if something is unsupported. If a generation invents experience, report it—confirmed issues can qualify for a credit review.

We do not know an employer’s ATS configuration, and a cover letter is not reliably scored by a keyword counter. “ATS-friendly” here does not mean we beat or bypass screening.

It means a readable structure, the role’s language used where your CV supports it, and application-ready PDF or Word exports—not a promise that software will rank you. Keyword highlighting in the browser is for you. Decorative keyword bold is stripped before the template fill so the download is not a bold-stuffed PDF.

Yes, our AI is trained on a diverse range of industries and job roles. Whether you're applying for a position in tech, healthcare, finance, or any other field, our generator can create a relevant and impactful cover letter.

Uniqueness comes from your CV and this job, not from a uniqueness slider. Two people applying to the same role should not get interchangeable letters, because the evidence is different. The same person applying to two roles should not get the same letter either, because the requirements are different.

While we strive to provide high-quality, tailored cover letters to enhance your job applications, we cannot guarantee specific outcomes. Success depends on various factors, including your qualifications, the job market, and the employer's preferences.

Two steps. First the model analyzes the listing and your materials: important work, hard and soft requirements, language from the ad worth mirroring, and evidence from your CV that actually maps to those needs. It invents nothing that is not in those inputs.

Then it writes a short case for why you fit this role, using that analysis—not a résumé restated in paragraphs, and not a keyword-stuffed rewrite of the posting. You review, edit, or regenerate before you template and export.

MCP is an open standard that lets AI tools securely call external services. Think of it as a shared language between agents (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and others) and apps like Coverlttr - so your assistant can request context or take actions without custom one-off integrations.

It gives MCP-compatible clients secure access to your Coverlttr account: check your profile and available credits, list resumes, estimate credit cost, generate and regenerate cover letters, apply templates, and export files. You sign in with OAuth - no API keys to paste into config files.

We publish install paths for Cursor, Claude (Desktop / connectors), Claude Code, ChatGPT, Gemini (CLI / remote MCP), and Windsurf. Any client that speaks remote MCP over HTTP can connect to https://mcp.coverlttr.com. ChatGPT should use https://mcp.coverlttr.com/chatgpt/mcp.

Connections use OAuth 2.1. Your agent only acts as you after you approve access in the browser. You can disconnect from your AI client’s MCP settings at any time. Coverlttr never asks you to paste long-lived API keys into chat.
